The French Association of Standardization, head association of AFNOR group, was created in 1926 and is placed under the supervision of the Ministry for Industry. It is the French official organization of standardization.It is member of the International Standardization Organization (ISO) where it represents France, as the ANSI represents the United States there.
It counts approximately 3 000 adherent companies.
Within the framework of the decree of January 26, 1984, AFNOR animates the central system of standardization composed of 31 sectoral standardization offices, the authorities and 20 000 experts.
AFNOR is the French member of CEN and ISO and for this reason assumes the responsibilities allotted to France.
For information, AFNOR group consists of an association, a main company and three subsidiary companies dedicated to commercial.It affirms its competences on four complementary trades:

- edition and diffusion of products of information,
- training:CAPE AFNOR
- certification:AFAQ AFNOR.
